I can relate to this! For me, right behind perfectionism is taking on way too much as thiugh my value is in doing. I think both stem from fear. Thank you for this thoughtful post.
Thanks Joan. I have a friend who, in her very direct and loving way, observed that I’m a do-monster. Not flattering and I slip back into it if I’m not careful. I’ve learned I can wait for the right time for what I want to do.
I was raised with a lot of fear. It was an energy that ran my family. My parents grew up during The Depression, which influenced their worldview. Those emotions get anchored in our cells and drive us if we are’t aware.
I really enjoyed this read. Chasing perfection is like chasing your own tail. You might catch it once or twice, but more likely you’ll end up dizzy, fatigued, and disappointed from trying and failing. I’m unlearning perfectionism and have started to embrace creating just for the fun of it. These days I lean into more how I feel when creating and place less emphasis on a “desirable outcome.”
It is about the creative journey, for sure! Being able to find joy in the process without pressuring ourselves for a deliverable is much better for a healthy mindset.
Haha! I dream of writing a post that goes viral and people comment and take action. Years ago I wrote a LinkedIn post that got over 10k views but nothing came of it. There must be a perfect formula I’m missing here on Substack.

Great post, Kathy. It's a topic more people need to examine because it cripples action and growth in so many of us.
For years, I let this fear drive me. It’s a veil that masks us from our truth.
Perfect!

I think we just have to keep plugging away, then one day the gods of viral posts will bestow our wished upon us. Believe sister! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
