Discover How a Single Shift in Language Can Transform Your Life and Relationships Forever
Life’s journey within our human vessel is an endeavor filled with joy, grief, lessons, fits and starts, and things that work and things that don’t. We can make life smoother by applying wisdom and knowledge to our daily lives. However, this wisdom can take years to accumulate and use.
If you yearn to live your best life and fulfill your soul’s purpose, know you're not alone. Many of us share these aspirations. However, despite our shared intentions, the stress, trauma, and chaos of life can often pose challenges.
Have you ever wondered why your requests don't always yield the desired results? Today, I'm here to shed light on a simple yet often overlooked communication tip that can make a world of difference.
Consider when you've asked someone—a spouse, child, or colleague—to do something, only to find your request unfulfilled. Frustration sets in, and you do it yourself, harboring resentment and straying from your divine path. But there's a better way.
Let's consider a few typical requests:
"Can you take out the trash?"
"Can you find out why this delivery is late?"
"Can you plant these flowers?"
"Can you read and comment on Chapter 3 of my manuscript?"
Most people will say "yes" to these questions. But a mere yes doesn't always translate to action. That's where a subtle shift in language comes into play.
Try this instead
A simple swap of one word for another can make a difference and help you avoid any conflict resulting from the lack of follow-through. Substituting ‘will’ for ‘can’ amplifies your results.
"Will you take out the trash?"
"Will you find out what is going wrong with this delivery?"
"Will you plant these flowers?"
"Will you read and comment on Chapter 3 of my manuscript?"
Notice the difference? The energy is uplifted and more expansive. By using "will," you're not just asking; you're inviting a commitment. It's a minor tweak with immense power, activating energy and driving action.
Try this for a week and notice the difference.
Change your own words as well.
When you want to commit to something someone has asked you to do or to offer support for them, use, “I will…” That phrase sets your intention and your commitment.
There’s more to this approach than I can share in this newsletter and on this platform. However, I have an idea of how you can embrace it and connect with like-minded people.
