Finding Energy in Your Art
Art and writing are intricately connected
The more I paint, the more I find that my art and writing are intricately connected.
Art is a path back to myself. A self that I’ve never known. A self that was quietly waiting for me when I was ready.
It’s been a slow journey. Even as far back as college, I began to see my creativity, but did not believe in it. I’m finding, though, as I show up for my art, more invitations show up for me. Those of you who are a Projector in the Human Design system will understand why this is significant. If you are not familiar, Projectors are here to guide, and as we step into who we truly are, invitations will come. We are not here to push hard for results. It wears out our nervous systems.
Art heals
So art is a great practice for me to soothe my nervous system and find my flow. Currently, I’m making work for a show on May 16 at a winery in Rockwall, Texas, with five other artists. I’m honored to be invited.

What I’ve discovered is that if I let a painting sit for a bit, observe it, or set it aside, a name for the piece often pops into my awareness.
This morning, the name for this piece, “Desert After Rain,” came to me while I was journaling and listening to music. I have a little bit of work to finish this one, and the title and music will help me connect with the energy of the painting.
David and Steve Gordon’s music has soothed me and helped me get into my flow for many years. Here is the most recent Spotify list that I am listening to.
Do you listen to music as you write or paint? What are your favorite playlists? Let’s share in the comments. I look forward to seeing what you listen to!

It’s interesting to learn about your art process, Kathy.
Thanks for the Spotify recommendation! I’m going to see how it feels when jumping on my rebounder. 😉
Your art show sounds like a perfect outlet to showcase what has been in your heart since college! ❤️
